As well being one of crime fiction's greatest achievers, Larry Block must have been among the first in recognizing the importance of inter-reaction with his readers. Before email and the internet caught on, he sent out regularly by air mail a print newsletter to his list of fans around the world; he embarked on regular and no doubt strenuous global "book tours"; he has had a website more than ten years; his work as been available in ebook format for at least eight years.

Here is a quote from one of his last print newsletters (signed as always just "Larry") and postmarked Jan 17, '03:

"E-books. I mentioned that Small Town's available in this format, but should add that so is Enough Rope, the huge volume of my short stories Morrow brought out last summer.... Readers who have tried e-books seem to find the format remarkably convenient and user-friendly. The wave of the future? Hard to say, but it's looking increasingly possible."

When LB visited Auckland some years back, I discovered he was also an entertaining public speaker and very approachable for those who wanted to chat.Chap O'Keefehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04404176810063857291noreply@blogger.com
