Countdown to Skyfall - Product Placement

When Skyfall hits cinemas next month Bond will be fully loaded with consumer goods - not only will this Bond be a Coke Zero guzzling, Heineken swilling,Omega watch wearing thug about town, but he will also be carrying a Sony Xperia mobile phone.

Sony Mobile CEO Hazuo Hirai announced at the IFA mobile show in Berlin this week that Daniel Craig’s James Bond will be armed  with, among other things, one of the company’s latest Android smartphones. The Xperia T boasts a 4.6-inch HD screen,13MP camera and NFC functionality.

I understand that the cost of making these films is so high that corporate sponsorship is a big help, but all this product placement does leave a nasty taste in my mouth. It's almost as if film makers are brainwashing us into buying certain products - and of course should we pay to see a movie that doubles up as an advertisement?

Looking forward to this movie though. Now does anyone want to trade me a new Xperia and three cans of Coke Zero for my iPhone 4s?
