The Archive can reveal that actor Benedict Cumberbatch will not be playing Khan after all in the forthcoming Star Trek II. It seems his character will be that of Gary Mitchell - The character of Mitchell appeared in the original "Star Trek" series episode, “Where No Man Has Gone Before,” as an old acquaintance-turned-ruthless-adversary of Captain Kirk.
The beans were spilled when actor Karl Urban slipped up during a press conference for Judge Dredd, but some believe that it was intentional to throw fans off the scent and that Cumberbatch would be Khan.
All this secrecy is daft - what difference will it make if we know who the villain is to be beforehand? Personally I think Mitchell may be more likely than Khan, since the Khan character would seem too obvious and comparisons would be made with the astounding Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
“He’s awesome, he’s a great addition,” Karl Urban told SFX Magazine, before blurting
(we presume accidentally), “I think his Gary Mitchell is going to be
exemplary.”
