Alzheimer's Disease

The Alzheimer's Disease research centre is available here for charitable donations.

As is common knowledge, bestselling author Terry Pratchett has been diagnosed with early Alzheimer's - what has touched me deeply is the way the author is facing up to an uncertain future. Below is a video of the author talking about the disease.

Quote from the Alzheimer Society:

The term 'dementia' is used to describe the symptoms that occur when the brain is affected by specific diseases and conditions, including Alzheimer's disease, stroke and many other rarer conditions. Symptoms of dementia include loss of memory, confusion and problems with speech and understanding.

For a general overview of dementia, you may wish to read our factsheet, What is dementia

Until I started working with care homes I didn't realise how many types of dementia there are. I pretty much thought it was just a case of losing your memory but it's so much more. It's frightening. Well done for bringing it to your blog. Jo

My mother has been diagnosed (she's 83) with dementia. The hardest part is she doesn't accept the doctor's diagnosis. It is frightening for not just the individual but also the family... Great video of the very brave Terry Pratchett.

I had no idea that Terry was diagnosed with AD.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Such a frightening illness. My mind is what I treasure more than anything else.
