It is sad news indeed but it looks almost certain that D C Thomson's Dandy Comic, the third longest running comic in the world, will close following a dramatic dip in sales - at the moment the title is shifting barely 8,000 issues a week- during its golden years it was selling two million copies a week.
D C Thomson are saying that the title will survive online and that some of the most popular characters may appear in The Beano which sells around 38,000 copies a week.

I often try to buy comics for nieces and nephews but those on offer are few and far between and are generally woefully short of content. They are instead mostly just adverts for TV shows (The Simpsons & Doctor Who)full of posters and giving "free" plastic toys.
In my day we had Dandy & Beano, Look & Learn, The Topper, The Big One,Eagle, Tiger etc. etc. plus all the DC and Marvel comics, not to mention the girls' comics. All full of actual stories. We didn't know how lucky we were...
Publishers should go back to producing comics with content.
