Podcast of the Week

 I listen to a lot of podcasts and there are billions, willions and sqillions out there - some are excellent, many are great and a lot are not so good. 

Whatever your interest you will, believe me, find a podcast that covers it. 

Where do you start, though?

Good question.

Which is why, every week here on the Archive I will point you to a podcast (myriad subjects will be covered) that I think you may enjoy.

And so this week I direct you to the excellent, Partners in Crime podcast. 

Hosted by bestselling crime authors, Adam Croft and Robert Daws the show is set out in a kind of magazine format. Think The Breakfast Show with knives! The show features genre news, interviews with well known authors and general chit chat. The latter is often hilarious.

The two hosts have a great chemistry and as well as the usual audio feeds there are several video episodes available on You Tube.

Adam Croft is a highly successful English writer of crime/mystery fiction and a advocate of independent publishing.                      

Robert Daws is a stage, television and film actor as well as a writer of a series of successful crime thrillers.

The Tainted Podcast is go - almost

I've been playing around with the idea of podcasting for some time now and I've almost got the first episode ready to go - It'll feature reviews, interviews and fun items. There should be a new episode every other month and once the first episode goes live - end of this week - I'll be looking for feedback so that I can ensure I put an entertaining show out every time.

The Tainted Podcast will be available on all the usual feeds, including Itunes and direct here from the Archive. We've got a massive scoop for the first episode which is an interview with a certain dead actor - this was achieved with the help of Edith Evans, AKA Elemental Edith (pictured), who my nan knows from the bingo. She's a spiritualist who claims to regularly chat with many long dead stars from the golden age of cinema - that should be a laugh!

Crimewav - new episode available now

The new edition of Crimewav features a story by fellow Hale author, Rafe Mcgregor. I'm a huge fan of Crimewav, it's one of the best crime fiction podcasts on the web and I subscribe via Itunes.

This is episode 33 of the CrimeWAV: we go overseas for Rafe McGregor's "Blue Mail."

Yes. And because the number 33 is special, I'd like to dedicate this episode to old Larry Bird, who was looking terrible at this week's NCAA championship game. Here's to feeling OK when you wake up in the morning, Larry.

Rafe McGregor worked in law enforcement for eleven years before becoming a crime fiction author. He writes both historical and hardboiled mysteries, and enjoys reading Philip Marlowe as much as Sherlock Holmes.

His first novel, The Architect of Murder, was published in February: twenty thousand war dead, the will of the wealthiest man in the Empire, the coronation of Edward VII, and a hero with post traumatic stress disorder… murder and mayhem on the mean streets of 1902 Westminster. Awesome!!

Bill Crider's Crimewav

Head on over to the CRIMEWAV the crime fiction podcast where Bill Crider is reading his Edgar nominated story, Cranked. If you've never tried Crimewav before now is the time to do so. The podcast run by writer, Seth Harwood is of professional quality and is essential listening for any crime fiction fan.

I love podcasts and subscribe to dozens so I feel qualified to say that Crimewav is among the big boys in internet broadcasting. The last episode featured a lost Dashiell Hammett story which was read by Mr Harwood himself. It's quite incredible that content of this quality can be offered free but then perhaps that's it's biggest strength - the creators produce it for love rather than financial gain.

Excellent stuff.
