FANGS

The indie horror thriller  starts a limited theatrical release tomorrow and will be available on DVD 6th August - we've got an in-depth review coming up as well as an interview with director Neil Jones and stars Marcia Do Vales and Stuart Brennan.

For now though - here's the latest trailer:

“A phenomenal new take on the vampire film” SCREAM Magazine

Fresh from seminary school a new Reverend embarks on his first parish. A small, low maintenance Chapel based in the quiet idyllic setting of a quiet country village. While on the surface the village seems to be a peaceful parish, with perfect residents, soon it becomes apparent that something more sinister lurks beneath the façade of a local businessman. On a wet, cold night a mysterious girl visits The Reverend at the chapel. Cold and upset she is welcomed in warmly, soon it becomes apparent that her visit is not for sanctuary but to deliver a message, a message in the form of a deep, bloody bite... Awoken with an unknown, uncontrollable thirst a confused Reverend can find no evidence of the girl from the night before, with nothing but the thirst and memory of the bite, The Reverend embarks on his mandate, to clean up the village and the neighbouring estate, by preaching or feasting... Let's prove the Archive kicks arse

Archive readers will want to see the indie horror hit, The Reverend. Not only will you get to see a post modern vampire movie that drives a stake through all that Twilight bullshit and gives the vampire teeth again, but you'll also get to see me hideously mutilated in one key scene - It's out on DVD next month but you can pre-order now.

The director Neil Jones is the man behind the project to bring the movie of my first Jack Martin western to fruition, so I would appreciate it if readers of the Archive could offer their support. Let's all head up the Amazon and show the power of the Archive by pre-ordering and sending this movie rampaging up the charts.

HERE

There'll be plenty of the film on the Archive over the coming weeks, including interviews with the director and the stars. I'll also be telling you all of my own night on the set and of the filming of my scene.

So come on - let's go.

Let's put Archive power behind the movie and get on over and preorder - you'll be glad you did, and beside by making this a success you will be helping ensure the survival of independent film.

Fresh from seminary school, a new Reverend arrives at his first parish - a small chapel in an apparently idyllic country village. But something sinister lurks beneath the surface, and late one night it comes to his door in the guise of a frightened little girl… Waking the next morning with a bloody bite, insatiable hunger and no sign of the girl, the Reverend sets out on his mission.
With striking visuals from one of Britain's rising directors and a stellar cast of horror legends (Rutger Hauer) and Brit heroes (Shane Richie, Tamer Hassan), packed with action sequences, gore, vampires and chicks and an original story loosely based on the Biblical book of Job, The Reverend promises to leave you thirsty for more...

A Tarnished Review

Mr Lennon John Paul George Ringo Dobbs
Us writers are a insecure lot - we sit alone all day, staring at the screen, with only Lennon for company and he's too busy chewing on his rawhide bone to take any notice (oh wait that's just me). We don't really get any human interaction during the working day.

And that's why reviews are so important to us - because it gives us some indication that all those hours of torture from characters who refuse to do what we want, and take us off on tangents not imagined in the outline, are worth it.

I was especially pleased to see the latest review of my debut western, The Tarnished Star (was it really four years ago that it first saw the light of day? Seems like only yesterday) on Amazon. The review comes from Laurie Powers - this ladies grandfather was  pulp writing legend, Paul Powers.

Here's the review:

The movie's gonna be called LawMaster
The Tarnished Star will not disappoint those who want a quick read that is lean, suspenseful and is true to the standard Western conventions. It has the feel of the Westerns from the 1950s and 60s. All of these qualities total up to a solid Western that is appealing and suitable for anyone's taste. The writing has almost a minimalist quality, resulting in a style that is spare and yet nuanced. Martin wisely keeps his storyline within a time frame of only a few days and fills his scenes with finely detailed scenes, rich characters and believable dialogue - the latter being one of the hardest skills for a writer of Westerns to master. The result is a book that you can get lost in with scenes filled with strong tension. One feels as if time has stopped, and I could not help but think of the movie High Noon throughout the story.

For those who like to read the works of new and talented writers, this is the book for you.

The Tarnished Star is currently in the early stages of development by Burn Hand Films, as a future vehicle for talented director Neil Jones - I've a meet with Neil this evening and rest assured I'll be badgering him about the movie. Neil's latest movie, The Reverend, a horror movie starring Rutger Hauer, Stuart Brannan, Tammar Hassan and Doug Bradley is due for a DVD release soon and expect a review here very soon.

Look out for The Reverend

I’m looking forward to this movie – director Neil Jones tell us – “We open theatrically in the UK on October 14th, our big launch will be at the British Horror Film Festival at the Empire in Leicester Square, I’m really excited for the release date, I really believe The Reverend brings something fresh to the genre and I believe the novel will be released at a similar time. We’re working on a US release date now as soon as we have that I’ll let you know! For tickets for horror festival please visit www.filmfestivalguild.com.”

As I say I’m eager to see this one – and not only because Neil’s a good friend and I’m in the movie and get seriously gored up, but also because when I read the script I was bowled over – seriously, you wouldn’t think it was possible for someone to come up with an original slant on the vampire mythos but Neil has done just this, describing the film in an interview HERE as, Death Wish with bites.

The cast here are awesome – not only do we have the great Rutger Hauer but also Bafta winning, Stuart Brennan and a certain Doug (Pinhead) Bradley. Of course the fact that a certain Gary Dobbs otherwise known as Jack Martin and Vincent Stark also appears briefly will cut no ice with you lot, but believe me my involvement with the film was great fun and gruesomely gory.

Horror has a new icon

It's one of the most eagerly awaited independent horror films of the year and Archive readers should be especially interested in this movie - for one thing the director is the award winning Neil Jones, who will direct LawMaster, the movie based on my bestselling western, The Tarnished Star, and for another it features a stellar cast and offers a new take on the vampire mythos - oh and there's also the little matter of the fact that I took a small part in the movie and was terribly mutilated - now surely, Archive readers won't want to pass up a chance to see me mutilated!

We present the latest press release from Burn Hand Films as well as some all new stills.

The Reverend
Shooting wraps and three new stills are released!

Shooting has finally wrapped on ‘The Reverend’, just as Neil Jones’s previous feature film ‘Risen’ is released on DVD in the UK.

The movie recently wrapped filming in Cardiff, with the director Neil Jones saying he was thrilled with the footage: “It was a tough 5 week shoot, with plenty of night shoots, but the crew were superb and the cast really stepped up to the plate. I’m excited to start the edit and see it come together now, and to have excitement left at this stage; that’s always a good sign.”

Rutger Hauer has taken the role of the Devil in the film, a role that he enjoyed immensely and Neil said he was a pleasure to work with: “There are a few actors that you always look to work with and for me, Rutger was a name at the top of my list. And this role was made for him. He’s an incredible actor and I think what surprised me most about working with him, was his genuine enthusiasm to make the role memorable. He certainly didn’t want to just walk on, perform and leave, he wanted many discussions about how to portray such an iconic role and because of this, I think his performance will be very memorable.”

Neil’s latest film ‘Risen’ has been released on DVD this week in the UK and quite timely it also won the BAFTA Award for Best Actor at the BAFTA Cymru awards, for the movies lead Stuart Brennan, who is also the star of ‘The Reverend’, playing the title character.

This all means that ‘The Reverend’ is heading full steam ahead and should be on course for a release later this year.

Here are three exclusive stills from the movie, featuring BAFTA winner Stuart Brennan, Tamer Hassan and Emily Booth.

Hot News

Stuart Brennan never looked this battered in, Risen
I spent a few hours this afternoon with director, Neil Jones of Burn Hand Films, looking over the progress of the script for the movie, LawMaster which of course is based on my western, The Tarnished Star.  It's developing fine folks and has raised my excitement levels no end. The image of Cole Masters riding across the silver screen is getting more and more real to me. Of course some names have been bandied about regarding casting, and at this present moment I can't name actors because of contractual reasons, but rest assured as soon as I can I will spill the beans here.

While there I got a sneak peek at the editing of the forthcoming horror movie, The Reverend and it's looking good, if a little gory - of course I was more interested in seeing the scene in which I was mutilated and...well, it brought tears to me eyes.

Reverend features the great Doug Bradley (remember Pinhead from Hellraiser) among a stellar cast, which includes the awesome Rutger Hauer. Keep reading for more exclusive Reverend news and, I've been promised, some exclusive pictures.

In the meantime here are the only two images released thus far.

More soon.

Bruised, battered but still standing

Regular readers will know that Neil Jones is the man who will be responsible for directing LawMaster, which is the movie adaptation of my novel Tarnished Star. You know, I actually dig the title LawMaster more and more each time I use it. Neil's currently shooting a new movie, The Reverend and for some time now I've been dropping hints and basically nagging Neil for a part in the movie.

Well Neil was obliging with the offer of a part which was... well not exactly what I had in mind. I was told I'd be playing the part of a character, described in the script as The Gimp and that I would be...well, put it this way mistreated somewhat.

This Sunday I did the shoot and had a great time. Burnhand Films always assemble a great crew and the night shoot I was involved in, 11pm to 7am, went smoothly and without any lasting ill effects. It's the first horror film I've ever worked on, at least as an actor rather than an extra, and from what I could see it's going to be a cracker - it certainly offers a new slant on the vampire mythos. There will also be a graphic novel version of the film released and expect news of that here on the Archive soon.
