THE BIZARRE BOOK TITLES AWARDS
The Bookseller Magazine runs these awards annually and this year - this year there were some oddities fighting for the award, and the biggest surprise is that a book on Nazi cooking utensils didn't win - Collectible Spoons of the Third Reich” by James A. Yannes, but it received only enough votes to place third in the online competition for the Diagram Prize for Oddest Book Title of the Year, the magazine announced on Friday. A total of 1,912 of the 4,553 ballots cast went to “Crocheting Adventures With Hyperbolic Planes” by Dr. Daina Taimina. In a statement, Philip Stone, charts editor of The Bookseller, said that Dr. Taimina’s book had won the prize, awarded to a work published in 2009, because, “very simply, the title is completely bonkers.” Second place went to “What Kind of Bean Is This Chihuahua?” by Tara Jansen-Meyer. Other top vote-getters included “Afterthoughts of a Worm Hunter” by David Crompton and “The Changing World of Inflammatory Bowel Disease” by Ellen Scherl and Marla Dubinsky.
