The man from the alamo
The man from the Alamo
Glenn Ford and Julia Adams
Directed by Bud Boetticher
1953 universal DVD
Westerns are my favourite film genre - I've always said you can't beat a good western and Man from the Alamo is a very good western indeed. It really does deserve to be better known and features a powerhouse performance by Glenn Ford.
The plot sees Ford playing John Stroud, a man selected to leave the Alamo and warn the families of those fighting that the Santa Anna army are approaching. However he is unable to prove he left the fort on a mission and is branded a coward and spends most of the film trying to redeem himself in the eyes of his fellow Americans.
There are some great action set pieces and Ford is the type of likeable but tough character that he could play with his eyes closed which all adds up for a quality traditional western movie.
The DVD unfortunately is a vanilla release and doesn't even contain a trailer but it's being offered at a great mid price range - £5.99 in the UK and of course when all is said and done it is the film we really buy DVD's for.
Excellent stuff.
