STARSKEY AND HUTCH DISCOMANIA
DISCOMANIA
1979
EPISODE ONE OF SEASON FOUR
By the time of the fourth and final season of the buddy buddy cop series, Starksey and Hutch was a massive hit and not just in the US but all over Europe as well - it was especially popular in the UK where bizarre looking Ford Capri's could often be seen tearing down the streets, painted in the Torino colours. The show influenced fashions with Starskey's oversized cardigans becoming popular with young men and David Soul would hurtle to the top of the pop charts, not once but twice.
The problem was both stars were tired of the show and on times tired of each other as well.
It doesn't show in the episode, though and this is an entertaining comedic episode with a remarkably creepy performance by Pierrino Mascarino as the psycho Tony. The chemistry between the two leads seems as strong as ever but off screen the cracks were begining to widen.
Still it's an entertaining enough episode and watching it now one prays that disco fashions will never return.
