'The average age of those at the Academy seems to be 978. Once again they have proven that they are completely out of touch with the film going public.'
It comes as no surprise that True Grit was overlooked at the Oscars - it was too popular for one thing, and horror of horrors, it was a western. It was nominated for 10 Academy Awards and came away with zilch.True Grit may not have triumphed at the Oscars, but its run has been extended after great box office success.
The western’s takings exceeded more than $200 million worldwide over the weekend, putting it in third place behind number one Black Swan and teen sci-fi flick I Am Number Four in second, according to Box Office Mojo.
Directed by the Coen brothers and starring Crazy Heart star Jeff Bridges, the heavily nominated drama is one of only four films in the Academy’s 83-year history to walk away without a single gold statue from 10 nominations.
I haven't rated the Oscars for years, ever since Forest Gump was selected over Pulp Fiction as best picture - I mean in what universe is Forest Gump better than Pulp Fiction???
