James Bond is shit - actor says

Jesper Christensen will not be reprising his role as the villainous Mr White of the Quantum organization in the 23rd film in the series. Not just because his character is unlikely to feature in the story, but also because the Danish actor lashed out at the predictability and quality of the two films he appeared in opposite Daniel Craig.

Speaking to press ahead of Friday's premiere of his new film "A Family" at the Berlin film festival, Christensen said that he is happy that his "interlude as a villain in the James Bond series is over. The films are so predictable. Shit, really."

And in Bond related news -

Hollywood heartthrob Robert Pattinson is interested in the role of super spy James Bond, after rumours were leaked that Daniel Craig is unlikely to play the spy in the next movie.

The 'Twilight' star is a huge fan of the Bond movies and is eyeing a possible takeover from current 007 agent Daniel Craig, reports contactmusic.com.

But Pattinson also admits he may struggle in certain areas of Bond's all-action job.

'Maybe in a few years... (But) I'm not very good at running,' he said.

Yea, well, he took the money didn't he? I hate it when people slam something like he did. The series has been around for what, over thirty-five years, so he knew what it was before he agreed to act in one. Take the money, then ridicule it after the check's cleared. Low class ... or maybe i should say, no class.

I agree it is bad form to slag the films like this. Mind you he has got a point - the daniel craig bonds are shit.

Ahhh, can't agree with you totally. I think Casino Royale is quite entertaining and well done. For me, it was a return to the early Bond's where story was more the focus instead of gimmicks and special affects, not that there wasn't an emphasis on stunts and such. And i loved Eva Green. But for me, FRWL reigns supreme as the best Bond.

Guess that should read special Effects. One should always proof read carefully before hitting the Publish Button.

I never took to Daniel Craig - he just looked wrong in the part to me. Casino Royale was a good movie though and could have been the best Bond of all with say Clive Owen. My own fave - Goldfinger

When the producers were choosing the next Bond, after Brosnan, I was pulling for Clive Owen. I think he would have been terrific. Re Goldfinger, it's a fine film, too. The fight scene between Bond and OddJob is as exciting as the Connery - Shaw fight on the train in FRWL, and both kinda define their respective movie, IMO.

Frank - out of interest what would be your fave Moore Bond. I think I'd alternate between spy who loved me and For your eyes only, maybe with Live and let die coming a close third.

Oh and I love the gypsey camp scene from FRWL

The best Moore Bond? That's a tough call for me. When first released, i liked all the Moore films, but i don't think they have held up as well as the Connery's. Friends of mine, and other folks, seem to think The Spy Who Loved Me is the best Moore, and while i loved the opening, I would have to go with For Your Eyes Only as the better film, though i don't like how that film opens. What I like about FYEO is it seems to be a return to the style of the early Bond films. It has more grit and realism. Some of Moore's got pretty cartoonish. So My Vote: For Your Eyes Only. I also like that they took the "keel-hauling" scene from the Live and Let Die novel, which wasn't used in that movie, but incorporated it into FYEO.

That was a great scene - the keel hauling. I can watch most of the Moore films over and over - his worse in my opinion, Moonraker followed by Man with the Golden Gun.

Frank Loose said...

Yea, dead on right. Moonraker and MWGG are pretty poor. Connery's Diamonds Are Forever lives on the same shelf.

IMO, the strongest book and one of the best movies in the entire series is OHMSS. I've always wondered how that movie would have been with Connery. Ya know? A different film, no doubt. It's darn good even with Lazenby, but when it first came out I remember having difficulty accepting him as Bond. Now that there's been a half dozen different actors, its easier to accept the change when it comes.

Gary Dobbs/Jack Martin said...

I too have come to appreciate Lazenby later in life. At first I hated him in the role but now, as a more mature viewer, I can better appreciate his performance which was okay and I think he would have improved greatly had he done a few more. Of course OHMSS is probably the most faithful of all the films to Fleming's novels.

Good points, all.

Some really interesting comments! One statement from the article that I find intriguing is the "leaked rumor" that says that Craig is unlikely to play the part. According to this link, Craig states that he's under contract for 4 films: http://www.mi6.co.uk/sections/articles/bond_22_event_press_conf_stockholm.php3?t=qos&s=qos&id=02042

And my 2 cents says that Craig is a fantastic Bond, (a close) second only to Connery. As for Moore... to me, he's the Adam West (TV Batman) of the Bond series. Just... plain... awful.
