A Cautionary Tale
"It doesn't matter what writers, publishers, readers, and bookstores say they want.It matters what they're doing.Right now, readers are voting with their wallets. I acknowledge the ebook trend, and the threat to writers and publishers in planned library book cuts. I'm rearranging what I write and for whom accordingly. But I'm still buying "real" books online: in the past week $US39.91 spent at Powell's and £13.69 at the Book Depository. On my income this has to be regarded as luxury spending. I should go without the books, but like many I fear the day when I might have to because there'll be no more books available that I'll want to buy.
