TWO PUBLISHERS STRIKE DEAL WITH AMAZON OVER EBOOKS
From SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Two large book publishers have reached new electronic-book pricing deals with Amazon.com Inc. /quotes/comstock/15*!amzn/quotes/nls/amzn (AMZN 135.77, -0.81, -0.59%) on the eve of Apple Inc.'s /quotes/comstock/15*!aapl/quotes/nls/aapl (AAPL 235.00, -0.85, -0.36%) release of its iPad tablet, according to a report published Wednesday. The Wall Street Journal reported that the new agreements are with CBS Corp.'s /quotes/comstock/13*!cbs/quotes/nls/cbs (CBS 13.94, -0.21, -1.48%) Simon & Schuster and News Corp.'s /quotes/comstock/15*!nws/quotes/nls/nws (NWS 17.01, -0.02, -0.12%) HarperCollins, and will enable both to set their own e-book prices. The deals mirror agreements reached by both publishers for Apple's iPad earlier this year, according to the report. MarketWatch, the publisher of this report, is a News Corp. property.
