David Bradley plays William Hartnell playing Doctor Who in this dramatisation of not only the origin of the show but the full Hartnell era. I'd been looking forward to this show which was penned by Who enthusiast Mark Gatiss ever since it was announced and thankfully it didn't disappoint. In fact it delievered more than I'd imagined and actually induced tears in the way it sensitively depicted William Hartnell's decline and his exit from the show he loved.
The climatic scene where Hartnell stands on the TARDIS bridge and looks up and then sees current day Doctor, Matt Smith was inspired and will reduce even the most cynical viewer into a blubbering wreck. It was a beautiful moment in a truly beautiful production.
Thankfully the BBC are rush releasing the DVD of this remarkable drama - it will be available from 2nd December 2013
Well done to all concerned.
