Respected sci-fi author Robert Silverberg once moonlighted as John Dexter and gave us this delight of gender bending literature. Or was it Lawrance Block? Block also penned work under the John Dexter name, as did many others - in fact every Cornith/Greenleaf/Nightstand/Hamling writer was at one time or another John Dexter.
So will the guilty party raise their hand

sounds like silverberg to me, or Phillip Jose Farmer. I wonder if he was involved with the dexter name.
