The competition was well supported by Archive readers. Around half of the blog's visitors nominated an actress who they believed could play the role of Black Horse Western series character Misfit Lil on screen. The names of some actresses came up multiple times and at the end we had a list of 25.

Since this was never to be a straight lottery, Chap O'Keefe then chose from the list the six actresses he felt were best suited for the part. None of the nominations was eliminated for lack of ability or star quality.

Gary says, "A bonus of the competition is that I've an excuse to post a picture of the very lovely Mandy Moore."

Chap says, "Sometimes, it came down to a case of the actress now having moved on to playing maturer characters than Lil. In one case, it was simply because I felt it wouldn't be fair to link the name of an actress who campaigns prominently against the wearing of leather and fur apparel with playing a cattle-rancher's daughter most often clad in buckskin."

The names of all the contest entrants who had chosen one of the short-listed actresses then went into a Stetson hat, and the names of our winners were drawn.

Chap's favourites (in no particular order) were: Anne Hathaway, Kat Dennings, Evangeline Lilly, Angelina Jolie, Mandy Moore and Billie Piper.

We thank everybody who participated and made this contest a fun event. Chap reminds all those not lucky enough to win a Lil book that the series now runs to five titles. Though only one is now still available at the publisher's website, they can be tracked down at some online retailers' sites, while large-print editions of the first three books are already published by Ulverscroft and the others are coming. Later this year, Hale will publish Misfit Lil Robs the Bank, and Chap is now working on a seventh Lil story.

Thanks David - you were actually one of the winners but as per your instructions I threw your name back in the hat and drew another name.
Thanks for all your support.
