Hawaii Five O is being remade and will air on CBS during the 2011/2012 season, but the original was a long running classic of TV Cop shows - Steve McGarrett was played by original Felix Leiter, Jack Lord. The show ran for twelve seasons between 1968 and 1980 and continued for a great many years in reruns. Indeed the show is still shown from time to time all over the world.
The show depicted a fictional state police division in Hawaii and the show got it's name from Hawaii being the 50th state to join the United States. The show's theme tune was hugely popular and was used over the Archive's TV Cops Weekend trailer. Most episodes would end with McGarrett turning to officer Danny Williams and saying, 'Book em Dano."
The stunning location work gave the show an exotic edge and it was hugely popular the world over, making many of the Hawaiian landmarks instantly recognisable.
I'm looking forward to seeing the re-make but am not expecting it to live up to this true classic.

I have zero interest in the remake but I've been enjoying the recent DVD release of the original show's eighth season. What puts Five-O over the competition are the numerous international intrigue stories which can be traced all the way back to the series pilot, "Cocoon."
Five-O is one of my favorite shows of all time.
I will probably give teh remake a try. Just to see what it's like. I enjoyed the original a lot. I also liked the original mod squad pretty well but hated the remake.
