A Man Called Masters

A Man Called Masters by Jack Martin
Available on Kindle for a low low price - 70p UK/69c US

A Man called Masters was first published online in Beat To A Pulp and in print in First Edition Magazine. The story has been well received by western fans the world over. And is now available for the Kindle and will soon be out in other formats.

Buy the story - not only will you be getting a sort sharp intake of western entertainment, but you'll also be helping to support the Archive. It does take considerable time and effort to produce this blog, you know.

Readers may be interested to learn that Jake Masters is the brother of Cole Masters, protagonist of The Tarnished Star (soon to be a major motion picture from Burn-hand Films). I am currently planning a novel featuring both Masters boys which I hope will be a future Black Horse Westerns title.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE COMMENTS FROM THE ORIGINAL ONLINE PUBLICATION OF A MAN CALLED MASTERS.

Jack Martin on January 5, 2009 2:41 PM James,
Coming from you. a writer I respect greatly, that has made my year and it's only January. Thank you so very much. Saying that the story could sit aside Elmore Leonard makes me want to scream, whoopieeeeeeee!

Joanne Walpole on January 5, 2009 3:31 PM I enjoyed it. The pace and detail were spot on for a shorty. I wish there were more ten minute reads about. Jo

Chap O'Keefe on January 5, 2009 3:53 PM You deserve success, Gary, not least for the sterling efforts you have been making to promote the genre at large. I'm glad I have an article from you "in the bag" to run at Black Horse Extra, coinciding with publication of The Tarnished Star.

Don Emigh on January 7, 2009 4:35 PM Keep them coming, Jack. More of good, basic Westerns and Mysteries is what the pulp fiction medium needs.

jack martin on January 8, 2009 4:34 AM Thanks Don - that's just what I intend to do. And also thanks to everyone else for your kind comments. Jack Martin and I fully appreciate them

Paul Brazill on January 28, 2009 4:26 PM This is the first western story I've read in years and it really is terrific.

Nik Morton on February 28, 2009 8:40 AM Glad I finally caught up with your gritty tale, Gary. Excellent atmospheric stuff. Loved the 'epileptic rattler' aside. By the way, what's Jake Masters's relationship to Cole Masters of The Tarnished Star? Nik (Ross Morton)

Laurie Powers on May 16, 2009 8:41 PM Sorry so late on commenting on this. Nice lean writing - perfectly timed. Realistic dialogue. A great read, Jack Martin. Can't wait for The Tarnished Star.

I picked this one out of the BTAP archives at random and how glad am I that I did?
A super story that is full of authentic little details – I really felt that I was stranded in the blazing desert with Jake.
I’ve only read a few bits n pieces of Westerns but this has wetted my appetite nicely.
Really well done!

"A Man Called Masters" is a marvelous story and I would also recommend Mr. Martin's "The Devil's Right Hand" which can be found in our archive.

I'm looking forward to the two Masters in a novel.
