THE DUKE GETS REMADE
With all the fuss about a True Grit re-make no one seemed to notice that Hallmark have re-made the early Wayne movie, Angel and the Bad Man:
The Hallmark Channel will air the remake of Angel and the Badman Sunday, July 5 2009. Lou Diamond Phillips will play Quirt Evans. Brendan Wayne, grandson of John Wayne, plays a small part if the movie.

Got the press release from Hallmark today, May 15, on the Angel.
Never saw the original. What's it about? And is that the Hallmark channel in the UK, or here in the "real" world? :)

Lou Diamond Philips? I guess Tom Selleck was too busy with his "Jesse Stone" TV movies to do the role. Sam Elliot must've been committed to something else, too.
One of the older tough as nails actors like selleck won't do for this role, because Angled and the Badman is about young-ish gunslinger who falls in love with a Quaker girl and tries to renounce his violent ways. It's way different from later John Wayne movies-much more sappy.
