The Prisoner

Sad to see the passing of Patrick McGoohan earlier in the week.

US based fans of his surreal TV classic The Prisoner can watch the entire series for free online here . I can't find a UK site that does likewise but if anyone knows of one then please let me know.

Thanks for the link. I've watched the series several times through but my wife hasn't. I will go to this site and enjoy it all over again. I do hate the last episode. Don't get it and probably never will. Maybe it's because I never want #6 to escape or maybe the sixties psychedelic ending throws me off.

David - I'm still flumoxed with the end myself - but what a series!

I probably go against the flow of most opinion here, but I preferred McGoohan in his earlier success, Danger Man (Secret Agent in US). These half-hour dramas were masterpieces of condensed plotting and action, plus they had great black-and-white cinephotography and used the fine set facilities of MGM's Borehamwood studios. I watched them the episodes on DVD a few years ago and they were still very entertaining.

Loved The Prisoner - and Patrick McGoohan's acting and 'voice'. One of his first speaking roles was in 'The Dambusters' - just the one line.
I liked his Judge in the screen adaptation of a John Grisham novel (title escapes me) that starred Sandra Bullock, Matthew McConaghy and Samuel L.Jackson.
We all went up to Portmeiron after the series finished and I got shut in No.6's house (no doorhandle on the inside). Fortunately, dad let me out.
As far as I know there is no 'official' explanation for the ending. McGoohan said it was about 'love' whereas I think in terms of freedom. 'I am not a number I am a free man'.
Patrick McGoohan is a talent that will be missed.

The Finale of The Prisoner is one of the most perfect episodes of TV ever made.

I was really sad to hear of his passing. I was a big fan of his. A friend of mine had the entire series of Secret Agent on DVD. I finished watching it not long ago. He will definitely be missed. R.I.P.
