The Italian passed away at his home in Los Angeles, according to reports in Italy.
De Laurentiis began his career in his native Italy, working alongside celebrated director Federico Fellini and winning Oscars for La Strada and The Nights Of Cabiria.
He moved to Hollywood and became renowned for epic movies with gargantuan budgets, including The Bible, Battle Of The Bulge, Waterloo and, most famously, the 1976 remake of King Kong starring Jessica Lange and Jeff Bridges.
