McLintock

Mclintock
1963 dr by Andrew V. McLaglen

This John Wayne western borrow heavily from the Taming of the Shrew and is an enjoyable enough western with a massive mud brawl at the end that is great fun. The film has fallen into the public domain and The Tainted Archive presents the entire movie for your viewing pleasure here.

Jo - I love this one too. It ain't up there with Wayne's best westerns but it's a good entertaining family film and there ain't nothing wrong with that.

Confession time: The spanking scene in McLintock inspired the spanking scene in Misfit Lil Hides Out, inasmauch as it gave me the confidence to submit it to Robert Hale Ltd. My thinking was if this was OK for a PG-rated film, it was fine for a library book. Also, at the time of the movie's release, I understand the poster showing John Wayne spanking Maureen O'Hara appeared very publicly on the escalators of London Tube (subway) stations!
When I ran a Hoofprint about my book at blackhorsewesterns.com/bhe9 I used a clipped frame from the public- domain film for illustration. It was the kind of pic I would have loved to have seen on the BHW's cover. Instead, we were given a very distinctive character, excellently drawn by Salvador Faba, but really having little to do with Misfit Lil or anyone else who appeared in the book.

I love this film. I've watched it numerous times on the Western channel and I think that John Wayne plays very well again off Maureen O'Hara.

A friend of mine, Dean SMith, was Maureen Ohara's stunt double. He has a photo of the two of them in costume. He wasn't as attractive, but from the back ...

He was the one running for the wagon at the end.
Dean was in some 10 John Wayne movies.

One of his newer photos is at www.spiritofthesnake.blogger.com.
