THE GOLDEN GHOST
BY JIM LAWRANCE AND YAROSLAV HORAK
This is another in Titan Books Bond comic strip series in which the daily newspaper strips are collected together in graphic novel format. The lead story, The Golden Ghost is a strange one in that writer, Jim Lawrance seems to lose Bond's true character and has him mouthing Cockeyney phrases and calling Moneypenny his old luv.
Bond completists will want this book but I found the Cockney Bond awkward - Titan are reproducing the strips as they were originally printed but one wonders how this got past the original editor back in the day. Still the story zings along at quite a speed and it's surprising how well these old three panel daily instalments, originally intended to be read over breakfast, work when collected together.
The other stories contained in this book are Fearface, Double Jeopardy and Star Fire and boasts an introduction from Richard Kiel in which the actor writes about his association with the James Bond film series.
