Commando news

Four more books have just hit the shops - Desperate Despatches by Norman Adams with art by Keith Page, sees a return of The Ferret with a tale set during the final stages of the Boar War. This series character has proved a hit with readers and it's nice to see the line using series characters. This type of thing could have come from the pages of the war comics of old, Battle or Warlord.

Variety seems to be the thing with the Commando titles these days and Cougar Squadron, first published in 1996, by Ian Clark with art by Ian Kennedy is set during the Vietnam conflict. There was a time when all Commando books concentrated on World War II, but now it is not unusual for stories to be set during other conflicts, something which is to be applauded as it helps to keep things interesting.

The Ghost Front by Ferg Handley, with art by Morahin is set during the second world war and is another story dealing with the Ardenne theatre. This truly is an excellent story but then writer, Ferg Handley is often responsible for some of my favourite titles in this long running series.

Finally we take to the air for Seek and Strike by Roger Clegg, with art by Amador. This title was first published in 1970 and tells of a David and Goliath style battle in the skies over Europe.

There you have it - two reprint and two originals making up the four titles in this long running comic book series. You know I've been reading these since I was maybe ten years of age and I still look forward to the four new titles, every fortnight.

All available now.
