Let it snow

The UK has been under the grip of the worse snow in thirty years -now I'm usually a fan of the snow but that's when it comes, hangs around a day or two and then vanishes but this is hard work. It's cost me a fortune in lost taxi work (there's my snow bound taxi in the pic left) and it's freezing cold outside. The weathermen are predicting even more snow tomorrow and no let up in the cold weather for at least another week.

Of course here in the UK this sort of thing brings chaos - this must be the only country in the world where we get caught out when it gets hot in the summer or cold in the winter. The authorities in my area are running short of salt to treat the roads and right now I feel like screaming.

How about this for absurdity - a call centre set up by the government to advise people on how to cope with the snow had to be closed down when staff failed to turn up for duty because of the snow.

The Daily Mail are reporting that milder winters may have caused sheep to lose inbred knowledge of how to cope with prolonged snow.

Despite the sub-zero temperatures scores of people camped out on an Avon beach to be first in line when the highly sought after vintage beach huts went on sale yesterday morning.

The first outdoor curling competition for 30 years on a frozen loch near Stirling, Scotland, was axed over health and safety concerns.

A steroid abuser was admitted to the Royal Glamorgan Hospital suffering with hypothermia. Apparently he went out for the night in a trendy muscle vest.

I don't know if it will make you feel any better, but most of the US is going through the same thing. Except for L.A. of course - we're still praying for rain. And they had a 6.5 earthquake in northern Calif. tonight. It's all a trade-off.
