The weatherman look to have got it wrong again and the severe snow they have been predicting since Friday is not, now, going to come. Instead we have rain - excellent, it'll clean away all the ice and snow.
The weathermen often get things wrong though - in Jan 2009 they were predicting a roaring summer and a mild winter and look what happened there.
The problem is that all these severe weather warnings cost businesses a fortune as people stay in, only travel when essential. Schools close if bad snow is predicted - mind you, teachers seem only too eager to jump on any chance for another day off. Inset day anyone - they never had these when I was in school. As I write it is 3 above 0 outside, raining, and the local school made the decision to remain closed today because of the severe snow reports. They made that decision yesterday--ahh well, the teachers will no doubt decide to play golf today instead.
You see the fact is that there are so many variables up there affecting the weather than the weather reports we see on the TV and hear on the radio, in fact any weather report anywhere - the furthest ahead they can forecast with 100% accuracy is 90 minutes.
It's all educated guesswork and yet people plan their lives by these reports - surely every weather report should point out the fact that more than a hour and a half into the future is all guesswork.
Ahh well, must get a coat--it looks like rain. And for 2010 the Archive predicts three roasting day in June and a lot of rain.
